Twitter has been on the social scene since 2006 and with now has over 500 million users worldwide with over 100 million in the U.S.  I love Twitter because it’s simple and I’ve learned to communicate pretty well in 140 character or less!  In 2012 Twitter bought Vine which allows you to create 6 second video’s and attach them to your tweets – pretty cool and of course you can add photos and links to other media.

How can you become a master using Twitter to build your brand?

.) Create a professional Twitter background that represents you and your brand. Utilize your bio section of your profile to place key words and a link back to your website or other social site where you want people to learn more about you.

.) Find followers that are your target audience, follow them and listen – yes LISTEN to what they are talking about.  With Twitter you can jump into a conversation with anyone at any time – that is the brilliance of this platform.  Find local followers at www.twellow.com

.) Find storytelling opportunities by listening to conversations, find out how to jump in & add to the conversation or create a spin off story

.)  Learn when to use hijack trending hash tags (be sure a trending had tag is not negative or inappropriate)

.)  Leverage your posts by adding an image!

.)  Learn best practices such as not being a “Bragger” – when someone is nice enough to Retweet (RT) your post, don’t you RT it again – that’s just bragging!

.)  Create strategy lists and organize your followers to make their content easier to access.

.) Use 3rd party dashboards to manage your followers, posts, custom lists and analytics.  I like www.hootsuite.com and www.bufferApp.com
