What Makes A Good Blog?

Blogging is a great tool to add to your marketing tool chest. So what makes a good blog?  First off, when you post content with key words relevant to your business the search engine will find it and you stand a better chance of being ranked.

But in order to get that ranking and thus be found here are a few tips;

  1.   Be consistent with your blogging. Create a schedule where if possible you post your blog articles on the same day.  People will get used to receiving your content once you train them.
  2.  Write frequently, I suggest once per week.  This will produce great contact with your readers as long as your content is relevant and interesting.
  3. Always write in your own voice.  Being authentic is so important because this era of engagement means that people want to connect with people believe it or not!  Even though our communication is virtual, you can still understand the voice and tone of how the person communicates.
  4. Keep your blog posts short, around 500 words or less. It’s enough to say something without people thinking its too long and they click off your page.
  5. Pictures add visual appeal so make sure they are relevant and that you either have bought them from a site such as Photos.com meaning you have the right to reproduce or if they are from a free site such as Kozzi.com that you have the right to reproduce online.  Best case scenario is to include photos you have taken!
  6. It should go without saying, but make sure you have checked your spelling and grammar.
  7. Be sure your headline and sub headline is not only compelling, but tells the reader what to expect. In addition if you can include a key word or two than your post will rank higher for your key words.
  8. Start promoting your posts on Social Media.  I recommend mixing up your posts are repost on different dates, times and weeks and by all means repost them more than once as long as your content is evergreen and have no specific date or event included.
  9. Add your blog posts to bookmark sites such as;  Stumble-Upon, Digg, Reddit-It, Delicious and Technorati
